We compared Rebecca L. Brown's author brand and book presence with the most successful independently published self-help book of the decade. Brianna Wiest's The Mountain Is You came out through Thought Catalog Books — a small, independent, author-led press that sells direct to readers — and has reached 29,419 Amazon ratings and the #518 rank in all of Books. Both books teach readers to understand the stories that keep them stuck.
Brooks Craft scores twelve areas that decide whether a reader finds, trusts and buys an independently published self-help book. Each is rated from what is live today.
Scores are Brooks Craft Publishing's assessment. Every figure on this page comes from live pages captured on November 7, 2026.
Each pair was captured the same day, at the same size. Rebecca is on the left, Brianna Wiest on the right.
A plain search for "Rebecca Brown author" shows a Knowledge Panel for a different writer, the Seattle novelist. Even with her credentials added, our client has no panel. Brianna Wiest's name opens a full "Author" panel with a Books carousel, a James Clear interview, her website and Instagram, X and TikTok profiles.

Rebecca's book already earns an AI Overview — her best Google asset. The Mountain Is You adds a Goodreads rating, "Read now" buttons for Kindle, audiobooks.com and libraries, and summary videos made by other creators.

briannawiest.com is minimal, but every line is proof: her full book list, "sold millions of copies", "#1 on audiobook charts", TODAY, Forbes and Oprah Daily, plus a contact for speaking and wholesale. Rebecca's site is a counselling practice site where the book is one menu item.

Wiest's Author Store shows 89 titles led by four books with 3,000–29,000 ratings each. Rebecca's shows the same book three times with ratings split across them.

Both books are independently published, so both authors control the same tools. Wiest uses every one of them.
The Mountain Is You carries a "Best of #BookTok" badge, 11 videos, a "Small Business" tag and a proof-first description ("over 1 million copies sold"). Shelter shows one format, no proof line and a price nearly three times higher than Wiest's paperback.

Wiest's "From the Publisher" section uses lifestyle photos of the book, bullet-point credentials, the book's core idea and a "Perfect for readers who…" list. Shelter has no A+ Content.

The Mountain Is You is #518 in all of Books and #4 in Mental & Spiritual Healing. Shelter is #51,003 in Self-Esteem.

Both Kindle pages have thin Editorial Reviews — only an author bio. Wiest's bio leads with sales ("1M+ copies, translated into 20+ languages"). Rebecca's Readers' Favorite and IndieReader reviews and her awards are not on her Kindle page at all — an easy win.

Rebecca's print-on-demand distribution through Tellwell is a real strength — her paperback is in stock at Barnes & Noble. Wiest's publisher sells mainly direct and through Amazon.
Shelter is in stock at Barnes & Noble and can be found in stores. The Mountain Is You is not listed at B&N; its paperback is sold through Amazon and the publisher's own shop. Rebecca's wider print reach is worth keeping — the gap is everywhere else.

Rebecca already has strong print distribution and a great Goodreads profile. The gaps are on Amazon, Google and social media.
Brooks Craft Publishing will build the visibility this book needs to stand beside the most successful independent self-help books.
